Dates come from the tithi in force at the right time of day for each festival: sunrise for most, midday for Rama Navami and Ganesh Chaturthi, evening for Diwali and Holika Dahan, midnight for Janmashtami and Shivaratri. The lunar month is amanta (ending at new moon); North Indian purnimanta names differ in Krishna paksha, but the dates are the same. Sankranti festivals follow the Sun entering a new sign. Calculated for where you live, so in the US some dates fall a day earlier than in India. Regional and sampradaya rules (Smarta vs Vaishnava, eclipse years) can move a date by a day.

How a Muhurtham is calculated
Every 15 minutes is checked against the classical filters. A time qualifies only if it passes all of them:
Panchanga shuddhi: no Rikta tithi (Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi) or Amavasya. The nakshatra must be on the event's approved list. No bad yoga (Vyatipata, Vaidhriti and others). No Bhadra (Vishti karana). The weekday must suit the event.
Personal — from your Janma Nakshatra:Tara bala counts from your birth star to the day's star, groups the count in 9s, and needs Sampat, Kshema, Sadhana, Mitra or Parama Mitra. Chandra bala needs the Moon in the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th or 11th sign from your Moon sign. For marriage, both partners' stars are checked.
Time of day: avoid Rahu kalam, Yamagandam and Gulika, each 1/8 of daytime starting from sunrise. Abhijit (midday) is a bonus. A fixed-sign Lagna is a bonus for Griha Pravesham.
Marriage extras: no weddings during Kharmas (Sun in Dhanu or Meena) or when Guru or Shukra is combust (moudhyam).
